VNC Console & NoVNC Access

The console VNC Proxmox displays the graphical screen or quick series of a VM directly in the browser (noVNC). Useful when SSH, RDP or guest network is unavailable, it allows access recovery, OS installation and boot troubleshooting.

Access from Proxmox web

  1. Select VM in the tree
  2. Click Console (noVNC) in the top bar
  3. The session opens in the tab, keyboard/mouse captured
  4. To release the mouse: button Escape or button release in noVNC

Access from the customer area

Since My services → your VM → button Console VNC, the panel generates a secure ticket to the console. See also to access the technical panel.

The VNC console is not encrypted end-to-end as SSH. Use it for emergency administration, not for seizure of unsecured production secrets.

Use cases

  • OS installation from ISO when guest network is not yet configured
  • Recovery after blocking firewall rule
  • BIOS/GRUB access on startup (restart VM and console immediately)
  • Windows Server without RDP enabled

Series console (alternative)

Some Linux headsless VMs use Serial terminal instead of noVNC, lighter, sufficient for command line.

Troubleshooting

  • Black screen, VM stopped, start it; or GPU required (Windows) without drivers
  • Console does not load, popup blocked, try another browser
  • AZERTY keyboard incorrect, layout in noVNC settings

VM creation: KVM · Network: IP & bridge.
