Monitor your Proxmox hypervisor and each VM avoids CPU saturation, excessive swap and full disk. Proxmox integrates RRD graphics; the client space Anthony IT Solutions also displays monitoring and uptime. This guide interprets metrics and plans capacity.
Proxmox Graphs (RRD)
- Node, CPU total, load, RAM, swap, network IO, disk IO
- VM/CT, relative consumption CPU/RAM/disc per guest
- Periods: hour, day, week, month, year
Customer space panel
- My Services → VM Proxmox → Monitoring tab
- CPU %, RAM %, disk %, uptime text
- Automatic refreshment ~15 s
- Use these KPIs before adding VM, see creation VM
Recommended warning thresholds
| Metric | Attention | Action |
|---|---|---|
| CPU node | > 80 % sustained | Reduce vCPU VM or upgrade offer |
| RAM | > 90 % + swap | Add RAM or stop VM non-critical |
| Disc | > 85 % | Clean backups/snapshots |
| Loading | > nb cores | Identify Gourmet VM |
Optimization
- Do not over-allocate vCPU (high time)
- Ballooning and min/max memory for CT LXC
- IO delay: prefer Virtio SCSI and cache adapted
Complementary tools
In VM: Prometheus node_exporter, netdata, or htop. At the node level: pvesh get /nodes/NODE/status in CLI.
FAQ
Empty patterns? Wait a few minutes after creating VM; check that qemu-guest-agent is raising stats.
