What's the point of this step?

So a visitor can tap monsite.fr in its browser arrives on your hosting, its computer needs to know to which server send the request. This is the role of DNS (Domain Name System): it translates your domain name into an IP address. Configuring the DNS therefore amounts to creating a indicator panel which says " monsite.fr is on the server X.X.X.X ».

On Anthony IT Solutions, this score must be in place before finalizing the order a web offer: an automatic check checks that your domain points well to our server, which also allows you to issue your certificate SSL/HTTPS Upon delivery.

In summary Create a record A (and ideally a A or CNAME for www) pointing to the IP displayed on the command page, wait for propagation and then start checking. That's all.

What you need

  • A domainname already registered.
  • Access to the zone DNS of this domain (the interface where you manage your records).
  • TheIP address of your hosting It is indicated on the order page of the web offer, in the "IP to Inform" insert.

Understand DNS record types

A few useful notions to avoid misapprehension:

TypeRoleExpected valueWhen to use it
APoint a domain to an address IPv4An IP (e.g. 203.0.113.10)Point monsite.fr and www to hosting
AAAASame but in IPv6An IPv6Only if an IPv6 is provided to you
CNAMEAlias from one name to another nameA domain (e.g. monsite.fr)Point www to the root domain
TXTFree text (verifications, SPF...)A text stringE-mails, property validation
MXe-mails receiving serverOne domain + priorityEmail Configuration
The root domain does not support CNAME We can't put a CNAME on the root domain (@ / monsite.fr) : you need a A. The CNAME is reserved for subdomains like www.

Step 1, Recover IP from your hosting

On the order page of the web offer, find the insert « IP to be provided " This is the IPv4 address of our hosting server. Note it: this is the value you will refer to in your DNS area. Throughout this guide, we call it VOTRE_IP.

Step 2, Create Record A

In the DNS area of your domain, create (or modify) two records:

  1. Root domain (apex)

    Type AHost/Name: @, Value: VOTRE_IP, TTL: 300 to 3600.

  2. Sub-domain www

Type AHost/Name: www, Value: VOTRE_IP. (Alternative: CNAME www → monsite.fr.)

  3. Save

Validate. Propagation starts immediately but can take a little time (see below).

Remove old scores If a record A (or AAAA) already exists for @ or www to an old IP, modify it or delete it. Two A This would result in a failure of the verification.

Where to find the DNS area

Record management is done in the interface where your domain is administered, usually under a heading called "DNS Area", "DNS Records" or "DNS / Name Servers". Field wordings vary ("Type", "Name / Host", "Value / Target", "TTL"), but the principle is identical everywhere:

  • Type of registration: A
  • Name / Host: @ for the root domain, or www for the sub-domain
  • Value/Target: VOTRE_IP
  • TTL: 300 to 3600
Do you have a domain we bought at home? If you already manage your domain on your Anthony IT Solutions client space, the DNS area is directly in it. Otherwise, contact our support that will guide you.

Special case: domain behind a CDN proxy

Cloudflare offers two modes for each recording, symbolized by a cloud:

  • Grey cloud (DNS only) : Cloudflare is just responding to your real IP. The DNS solves directly to VOTRE_IP.
  • Orange cloud (Proxied) : traffic goes through the Cloudflare network. The public DNS then returns IP Cloudflare (e.g. 104.x, 172.6x, 188.114.x), and not your original IP.

Our order check automatically recognizes IP Cloudflare ranges : a proxified domain is therefore accepted, provided that the original registration points well to VOTRE_IP In the background.

Proxy + SSL certificate If the issue of the Let's Encrypt certificate fails behind the proxy, two options: Set Cloudflare SSL mode to "Full" (or Full strict), or temporarily pass the recording in grey cloud (DNS only) the time of the emission, then reactivate the proxy.

www and root domain (apex)

So that your site will respond as well monsite.fr as on www.monsite.fr :

  • Root domain @ : registration A To VOTRE_IP (mandatory).
  • www : one A To VOTRE_IP, or one CNAME To monsite.fr.

The automatic redirection of www to the version without www (or vice versa) and HTTPS forcing are then managed on the hosting side, once the site is delivered.

TTL and time to spread

The TTL (Time To Live) indicates how long the DNS servers keep the information in cache. The lower it is, the faster your changes spread.

TTLBehaviourRecommendation
300 (5 min)Rapid propagationIdeal when setting up or changing
3600 (1 h)BalancedGood compromise every day
86400 (24 h)Long coverAvoid during migration

In practice, the propagation takes from a few minutes to 24 hours depending on your ISP's registry and cache. It's normal: patiently and then check again without changing the domain.

Check that the DNS is correct

You can control the resolution even before ordering.

On the command page (automatic)

Enter your domain in the domain name field: the verification DNS starts automatically. If the domain points to our server (or is correctly proxified by Cloudflare), the "Add to Cart" button s'active.

Command line

On Windows, macOS or Linux:

# Afficher l'enregistrement A
nslookup monsite.fr

# Ou avec dig (macOS / Linux)
dig +short A monsite.fr
dig +short A www.monsite.fr

The command must return VOTRE_IP (or a Cloudflare IP if the proxy is enabled).

With an online tool

Services such as dnschecker.org or whatsmydns.net display the spread from several countries, convenient to check that the update is broadcast everywhere.

And then what? Online and SSL

Once the DNS is validated and the command is finalized:

  1. Provisioning

Your panel account and website are automatically created (1 to 2 minutes).

  2. SSL certificate

A Let's Encrypt certificate is required as soon as the DNS points correctly: your site passes in https://.

  3. Online

Place your files in SFTP or install a CMS from the panel.

Troubleshooting Common Errors

"The domain points to another IP"

An old record A/AAAA remains. Edit it so it says VOTRE_IP, remove duplicates, then wait for propagation.

« No DNS records found »

The recording is not yet created or propagated. Check that you have added it in the good zone (the domain must use this provider's name servers), and then wait.

My domain uses the wrong name servers

If you manage the area at Cloudflare but the domain still points to the NS from the old registrar, your recordings will not be taken into account. Check the Name servers (NS) of the field.

Check fails while dig returns the correct IP

This is often a local cache. Wait a few minutes and start again. The "Recheck" button forces a new control.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long does the DNS spread take?

A few minutes to 24 hours. A low TTL (300 s) accelerates the diffusion. Most of the time, it's effective in less than an hour.

Do I need to create a record for "www"?

It is strongly recommended that your site also respond on www.monsite.fr. Use a A To VOTRE_IP or a CNAME to the root domain.

Can I keep the Cloudflare proxy (orange cloud)?

Yes. Our audit recognizes Cloudflare IPs. Just make sure the original record points to VOTRE_IP and use the "Full" SSL mode if necessary.

Do you need an AAAA record (IPv6)?

Only if an IPv6 address is given to you. A record A (IPv4) is enough to put your site online.

Will my site be in HTTPS automatically?

Yes, a Let's Encrypt certificate is automatically issued as soon as the DNS is correct. In the meantime, the site remains accessible in http://.

What happens if I change the domain after ordering?

The DNS score for the new domain will have to be re-established. Contact the support to re-associate a domain with existing hosting.
