Snapshots & backups TeamSpeak 3

The snapshots TeamSpeak 3 export the entire server configuration (channels, permissions, groups, bans) to a compressed file. This guide covers export/import, backup planning and recovery after incident or migration.

Content of a snapshot

  • Channel structure and order
  • Server and channel groups + permissions
  • Bans, complaints, icons (depending on options)
  • Virtual server settings

Snapshots do not include voice chat history or customer records.

Prerequisite

  • Admin Server Rights, admin access
  • Disk space to store files .snapshot

Export a snapshot (TS3 client)

  1. Log in to the server in admin
  2. Permissions → Server backup → Export snapshot
  3. Choose options (permissions, bans, icons, all check for full backup)
  4. Save the dated file: ts3-backup-2026-06-09.snapshot
  5. Store a copy off-server (local PC, cloud)

Import a snapshot

  1. Stop the server or warn users (import overwrites config)
  2. Permissions → Server backup → Import snapshot
  3. Select file, confirm replacement
  4. Restart the TS3 server from panel
  5. Check channels, groups and test connection
Export a snapshot before each major permission recast or channel structure.

Backup via Query / panel

On managed hosting, you can also copy the folder ts3server.sqlitedb cold (server stopped) for a raw backup. Prefer snapshots for portability between minor versions TS3.

Recommended planning

  • Snapshot weekly manual for active communities
  • Snapshot automatic before update TS3
  • Keep 3 to 5 slippery versions

Migration to new machine

  1. Export snapshot on old server
  2. Install TS3 on new offer, first start
  3. Import snapshot, regenerate tokens staff if necessary
  4. Update DNS/IP to Members

Troubleshooting

  • Import fails, incompatible version TS3, update target
  • Breaked losses after import, previous snapshot reimport
  • Missing icons, upload pack icons or check icons when exporting
