Secure & Harden TeamSpeak 3 Server

A public voice server faces the flood, spam connection, raids and abuse query. This guide details the hardening of a TeamSpeak 3 server: anti-flood, limits, bans, tokens, whitelist Query and response to current DDoS attacks.

Common threats

  • Flood connection / channel creation
  • Spam poke or text messages
  • Brute Force ServerQuery
  • Usurpation identity without server password

Prerequisite

Hardening permissions Guest

  1. Reduce the rights of the Guest group: no channel creation, no file transfer
  2. Limit i_client_max_channel_subscriptions
  3. Disable solid poke: i_needed_poke_power high for staff only
  4. Enable unique identity registration if community closed

Built-in anti-flood

TS3 applies flood points per action (connection, message, poke). Adjust in config server or via edit permissions:

  • i_ft_quota_mb_download / upload, file transfer limit
  • Ban temporary car after flood threshold
  • Maintenance mode during attack, temporary server password
Hosting includes basic network protection. For highly exposed communities, combine TS3 hardening + server password the time of attack.

Secure ServerQuery

  • Whitelist IP strict, Query API
  • Long passwords, dedicated accounts by service
  • No exposure 10011 on the Internet without filtering

Tokens & access staff

  • Tokens for single use per person
  • Revoke old tokens regularly
  • Never publish token Server Admin on Public Discord

Bans & logs

  • IP Ban progressive duration (1h → permanent)
  • Regular export banlist via snapshot, backups
  • Server log analysis for raid patterns

Incidental response

  1. Enable server password immediately
  2. Kick/ban IP beaches via Query or admin client
  3. Contact host support if network saturation
  4. Restore snapshot clean if permissions modified by attacker

FAQ

Is TS3 encryption enough? Voice traffic is encrypted, but the attack surface remains the connection and Query layer. Hardening permissions is essential.
