To play or host on your VM, you must have a valid Steam license from Farming Simulator 22 or 25:
- Playing on the VPS (solo session or host): A copy of the game linked to the Steam account used on the VM is enough.
- FS dedicated server 24 hours a day : Giants / Steam require in practice a second copy of the game on a second Steam account, as the same account cannot stay connected simultaneously to your PC and the server.
Prerequisite
- An active VPS Farming Simulator (VM Windows Server 2019, 2022 or 2025).
- Access RDP or console NoVNC from the VPS panel.
- An account Steam with Farming Simulator 22 or 25 purchased (and a second account + game if permanent dedicated server).
- Stable Internet connection on VM for Steam downloads.
If you haven't connected to the VM yet, start with the First RDP connection.
Step 1, Connection to VM
-
Open Panel
Since My Services, click Manage then get the IP and password
Administrator. -
Connect to RDP
Use the Remote Office (
mstsc) or the file .rdp downloadable from the panel.
Step 2, Install Steam
-
Download Steam
On the VM, open Edge and go to store.steampowered.com/about.
-
Install and launch Steam
Install the client, sign in with the Steam account that has Farming Simulator (a dedicated account if multiplayer permanent).
Step 3, Install Farming Simulator
-
Add game to library
In Steam, install Farming Simulator 22 or Farming Simulator 25 from your library or game page.
-
Wait for the download to end
FS 25 can weigh dozens of Go: let Steam finish, then run the game for the first time to validate files and create configuration folders.
-
DLC & mods
Install your DLCs from Steam. Mod Hub mods are then managed from the game menu or folder
Documents/My Games/FarmingSimulatorXXXX/mods.
Step 4, Play or Host
- Solo/Temporary Host: Launch FS from Steam on VM, create or load a backup, open the multiplayer and invite your friends with the public IP of VPS.
- Permanent server 24 hours a day : use a dedicated Steam account (second copy of the game), run FS, then Multiplayer → Create a server. Communicate the public IP of the VPS and port to players.
Keep the server online
- The session remains active as long as the game runs on VM: don't close Steam abruptly.
- Disable Windows standby (Settings → System → Power).
- After a Windows update, restart the VM from the panel and then restart FS.
& Firewall Network
If players fail to connect, allow FarmingSimulator.exe and Steam in the Windows Defender Firewall, then check the port displayed in the FS server settings.
Performance advice
- Choose an offer with sufficient RAM (8 GB minimum comfortable for FS 25 + light mods).
- Close unnecessary applications on the VM before starting the game.
- Save your folder
savegamebefore a big Steam update.
